Pragmatic Leadership
Ryan Campbell has served as Tuolumne County’s District 2 Supervisor since 2018, bringing more than 20 years of experience in local government, emergency management, and journalism. A Belleview resident for two decades, Campbell first moved to the county after earning his journalism degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Before his election, he worked as a newspaper editor and reporter, then held key analyst roles in behavioral health and the Office of Emergency Services, where he managed programs on tree mortality, hazard mitigation, and drought response.
Trusted Problem Solver
During his tenure on the Board of Supervisors, Campbell has prioritized fire safety, infrastructure improvements, and responsible budgeting. He secured funding for three fully staffed fire engines, increased road repair funding by $10 million, and helped boost the county’s pavement index by 10 percent. Campbell led efforts to stabilize the county budget, building up reserves and expanding public access to financial data. He is known for his hands-on approach to community concerns, from negotiating contracts to keep the food bank open to restoring library funding.
Ryan has the rare ability to build relationships with community members, businesses and state and federal agencies.
Full Time Supervisor
Serving as Supervisor does not end when Ryan leaves the Supervisor’s Chambers. Campbell has served on numerous Board of Directors including Tuolumne County Committee on Homelessness, Behavioral Health Board of Directors, Tuolumne County Transportation Committee, and the Amador Tuolumne Community Action Agency (ATCAA), and many more commissions and committees.
Outside the Supervisor’s Chambers
Campbell remains active beyond his official duties, serving on the boards of the Cedar Ridge Volunteer Fire Company, Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System, and representing Tuolumne County with the California State Association of Counties. Additionally, Ryan is active in 4-H, Moose Lodge 2183, plays on the Bark Beetle Rugby team, and attends St Patrick’s Church.
The Next Four Years
Looking ahead, he cites restoring fire funding, improving roads, and making the county more business-friendly as top priorities. Campbell’s approach centers on transparency, full-time commitment, and practical solutions to local challenges.
